To
better understand the effect of music and behavior, it’s important to clarify
the issue from the past resources, identified as the Mozart effect. It refers
to a set of resource results indicating that listening to Mozart’s music may
induce a short term improvement on the performance of certain kind of mental
tasks known as spatial temporal reasoning.
Some workers like to listen to music when they
find themselves losing focus. They may also plugin their ear buds to escape
events that are too noisy.
People’s mind tend to wander and “a wandering
mind is unhappy”. Most of that time people focus only on the imperfections of
life. Music can bring us back to the present moment. In one study involving
information technology specialists, it was found that those who listened to
music completed their tasks more quickly, and came up with better ideas because
music improved their moods.
When you are stressed, you
might take a decision more hastily; you have a narrow focus of attention. When
you are in a positive mood, you are able to take in more options.
Personal choice in music is very important. In a
study people were allowed to listen to whatever they want and for how long they
wanted. Those who were moderately skilled were benefited the most while experts
saw little or no effect.
Music may be efficient in reducing stress as you
work. By affecting arousal and mood, music influences cognitive performance.
Music can be used to relieve boredom and tension.
Music improves concentration by blocking other distractions
including noise. Music improves workers morale and productivity became lower
when no music was played. Listening to music in work environment elicits
positive feelings which increased productivity on tasks that require creative
output.
It improves coordination of efforts, lessens fatigue and
lifts employee morale. The end result is employee with a positive attitude
towards the job and increase in work performance.
It takes just 15 minutes to
half an hour of listening time to regain concentration. Music without lyrics
work best.
