INDUSTRY ANALYSIS




With the placement season to kick start in a month the four day industry analysis program was conducted from September 14, 2014 to September 17, 2014. The objective of the program was to familiarize the students with industry specific terminologies meant for analyzing different industries. Mr. Venkatramanan Krishnamurthy the CEO of WeFaculty, Bengaluru, India was the speaker of the program. And he is a consultant & visiting faculty in top B-Schools of India. 


During the four days of the program different industries like E-commerce, retail, banking, FMCG, Telecom, IT and ITES were covered. Each industry had its unique analyzing terminologies/key operating metrics like sales per square feet for retail industry, ARPU for telecom industry, brand performance for FMCG industry, billing rates for IT industry, logistics for e-commerce industry and capital adequacy ratio for banking industry. Industry analysis was a vague idea in the minds of the students as the differing terminologies concerning the various industries were not known earlier. This program gave us the complete knowledge about the specific industry terminologies; approaches for analyzing and understanding different industries. The program was very interactive as we students spoke out first about different industries based on the knowledge we had gathered during our Summer Internship Program (SIP) in our respective industries. Then the speaker filled the bits and pieces of information not known to us earlier and also gave us specific guidelines for making the analysis easier and faster for every industry. The interaction helped us evaluate the knowledge level we had on the industry in which we had done our summer internship and the speaker to facilitate even more information. At the end of the day the program was of great use to us and we could now analyze and understand the industry better before sitting for our placements.
